CLINICS AND OTHER SERVICES

Practice Nurses And Health Care Support Worker|

Our nurses and health care support worker are available daily at the surgery for good health promotion, advice about travel, diet and exercise, smoking and alcohol, and for asthma, diabetic and heart disease clinics, as well as routine nursing procedures.

Child Immunisation Clinics

Clinics are held on Monday afternoons at Gosport Health Centre.

Well Baby Clinics

These are held between 1.00 and 3.00pm on Monday afternoons at Gosport Health Centre.

Minor Surgery

This is usually carried out by appointment with Dr Burlein at the Gosport War Memorial Hospital or within the surgery. Please make an appointment with any GP to arrange this.

Non-NHS Examinations

The doctors are happy to carry out medicals, eg insurance and driving licence, by appointment outside surgery hours. Please telephone the surgery for an appointment. Ask at reception for the charges for these services.

Counselling

A registered counsellor is available at the Practice. Appointments must be made through your doctor.

Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations

Please make an appointment at least eight weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover. A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS. A list of these charges is held at reception.

Flu Clinic

An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for all patients over 65 years of age and those with heart, lung, liver or kidney disease, diabetes, their carers and residents of nursing and rest homes. Please contact the reception staff in October for details of the vaccination dates and to make an appointment. From time to time the Department of Health will add 'at risk' groups eligible for this vaccination programme - please contact reception for up-to-date details. If you are unable to attend the surgery, a home visit will be arranged to undertake this facility.

Pneumovax Vaccinations

A pneumovax vaccination is also highly recommended for all patients over 65 years of age as this will help protect them from pneumococcal disease which includes pneumonia, septicaemia and meningitis.

Yellow Fever Vaccinations

Gosport Health Centre is an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.

Maternity Care

We like to see you early in your pregnancy, as soon after two weeks from the first missed period. We hold antenatal clinics every week, where we encourage you to ask questions and discuss any problems. Partners are very welcome. Our midwives visit you at home early in the pregnancy and informal talks and relaxation classes are held by the midwives.

Child Health Surveillance

If your child is under five years of age, please register them for regular checks on development and a physical examination.

Contraception

We offer confidential advice to patients of any age. Our doctors and nurses are fully qualified and interested in providing a complete range of contraceptive services, including the pill, the coil, the cap and general advice as well as discussing infertility problems.

Cervical Smears

This is a very important test to detect early changes that can lead to cancer of the neck of the womb. The simple test, which is done by the practice nurse or doctor, is recommended to be carried out between three and five yearly intervals depending on the age of the patient. Please ask us for further details.

Care Of The Elderly

If you are 75 years or older, you will be offered a consultation or a visit to see you at home each year. This is to ask about your health and to tell you of the range of services that are available should you ever need them.
